When the new studio was built in 2002,it was with ease of production in mind.
Several bays were installed for wheels because Paul needed to use several to make
the large pots.  In addition to the Soldner and Brent wheels pictured, there are also
two kick wheels.  The studio is loaded with our collections of other artist's work, and
a library of resource materials for individual study. Paul has a knowledge base
compiled from 30 years working as a potter,in all phases of the ceramic process.
Our goals with the classes are to  give people a feel of working with clay in whatever
direction they wish to take.  Our combined experience covers all aspects of the
ceramic process, so we can be there to help and guide individuals wanting to explore
the world of ceramics.  After completing  introductory class ,  students will be able to
rent studio time for individual pursuits.
Response was  terrific for our initial offerings, and over sixteen students will begin
classes this month. We have included all skill levels, and have several home school
families signed up.
Plans are to offer summer workshops and a sort of pottery retreat where a person
can spend individual time  in studio, while staying in our cosy primitive cabin on the
property.
Our area in east central Minnesota, offers the best of summer recreation with
fishing, canoing, small town festivals, and an abundance of nature to inspire you!
We realize that everyone is not going to
become a professional potter, or even
want to, but if you desire, we have over 25
years experience marketing our work and
can give help in the areas of preparing for
art fairs and entering shows, getting the
most from your slides, and online entries.
Our aim is to nurture your creative spirit
and introduce the wide world of ceramics
and it's intimate history with man across
the ages.
From it's early beginnings as a functional
necessity to it's aspirations in the world of
art, clay has been a partner to us from the
beginning.

The kiln is up and running. The last firing was a real success, and it was completed in 22
hours.
CLASSES are starting up again after a brief break over the holidays.  You can call for
available days

You can fire your work and assist in the firing.  We are planning regular firings, on a
monthly basis.

Camping and Lodging are being taken care of on an individual basis.  There are several
Motels in the area.  There is space here for several types of camping.  Our visitors provide
their own food.  Pottery that is brought here for firing must meet specifications for clay body
and must be  in the bisque state to go in
.
Classes have completed a year long cycle, now, and it is really amazing how
things have evolved. Two of the original students work in their own studios,
and continue getting instruction and assignments from Paul.  A new program
this winter was a group of friends that just wanted an afternoon in the studio
playing with clay. Except for the instigator Molly, they had  no experience with
wheel throwing.    Some of their work is pictured below.   updated  4/24/07

About the Teacher:
Paul has quite simply never done anything else in his working career but make
Pottery. Of course supporting ones self with your own work, involves a lot
more than creating a piece on the wheel.  His thirty -plus years of experience
have given him a unique insight into the history of Pottery, and it's relevance to
today's market.  Paul's experience lies entirely outside of the Educational
/University  environment.
His sole motivation has been to make quality work for everyday use.  He has
worked in production potteries,  and done custom work for studio potters while
continuing to pursue his personal journey with clay.
Only in the last year has he begun offering classes, The experience he brings to
the teaching environment has proven rewarding for him and the people that have
participated.
